The Law is Paralyzed

Habakkuk 1:1-4 and 2:4(b)

TITLE: The Law is Paralyzed, The Righteous shall live by their Faith

TEXT: Habakkuk 1:4; 2:4

Subject: When the world around us seems to be corrupt and evil abounds,

The righteous shall live by their faith

INTRO:

1. Turn on the news and there seems to be violence everywhere. Murders,

Robberies, rape, all types of sin and evil are everywhere. This is no different

Than the days Habakkuk described in his prayer to God.

2. The law lets all these crimes seem to slip by and return the criminals back out

On the streets as fast as the police bring them in.

3. How then is the righteous person to live then in such times? He is to live

By his faith!

INTRO:

I remember back a few years when the O.J. Simpson trial was in full force on tv.

I watched as the prosecution brought out pieces of evidence one after the other.

It was what seemed, at least to this arm chair juror, an air tight case. But in

Amazement, I was dumbstruck when the appointed jurors returned with a not

Guilty verdict. Everyday it seems more crime is reported and everyday more

Is reported and everyday it seems that the criminals are allowed to go free or

Get very little punishment. The prophet Habakkuk said in his book:

How long, O LORD, must I call for help,

but you do not listen?

Or cry out to you, "Violence!"

but you do not save?

Why do you make me look at injustice?

Why do you tolerate wrong?

Destruction and violence are before me;

there is strife, and conflict abounds. (Hab. 1:2-3)

Transition: Habakkuk went on to wrote in verse four:

Therefore the law is paralyzed,

and justice never prevails.

The wicked hem in the righteous,

so that justice is perverted.

I. The Law is Paralyzed

A. Romans 4:14-15-" For if those who live by law are heirs, faith has no value and the promise is worthless, 1 because law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression."

B. Galatians 2:16 (b) "because by observing the law no one will be justified."

C. Romans 3:20 "Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin."

II. The law is EXTERNAL

A. ROMANS 2:28 "A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical."

B. ROMANS 2:25 "Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, you have become as though you had not been circumcised.

III THE WICKED HEM IN THE RIGHTEOUS

A. HABAKKUK 1:4 " The wicked hem in the righteous,

so that justice is perverted."

B. MARK 2:2-4 "So many gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven. Now some teachers of the law were sitting there,

1. The teachers of the law blocked the door so those with faith couldn’t get to Jesus

2. Instead of operating through the law, THE DOOR, they went to Jesus by FAITH

C. LUKE 11:7 "`Don't bother me. The door is already locked"

IV.. JESUS CLARIFIED THE LAW AND MADE IT INTERNAL! OF THE HEART

1. MATTHEW 5:31 "...BUT I TELL YOU..."

2. ROMANS 7:6 " But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

3. Deuteronomy 30:6 " The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live."

V. THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL LIVE BY THEIR FAITH

A. HABAKKUK 2:4

B. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:7 " We live by faith, not by sight."

C. ROMANS 4:16 "Therefore, the promise comes by faith"

D. GALATIANS 2:16 " know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ"

VI. FAITH COMES FROM HEARING

A. ROMANS 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ."

B. CONCLUSION;

1. Is today the day you are ready to but your faith in Him who can deliver us from

This world of corruption with His promise of ever lasting life?

2. Are you ready to today walking not by sight but by faith?
